Former Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, Adegboye Onigbinde, has said he is very happy with the change of power in CAF, saying Hayatou’s exit was good for African football. Onigbinde, who spoke with our reporter from his base in Ibadan, noted that, attimes change is most desirous when things become static in a facets of life.
The former Super Eagles chief coach congratulated the new CAF President, Ahmad Ahmad from Madagascar and the NFF President Amaju Pinnick for winning the CAF Executive Committee seat, but he advised that the new officers should try as much as possible to work closely with the ousted CAF President, Issa Hayatou, if they must succeed.
“It is not easy to hold a position for 29 years; we should also give kudos to Hayatou for his resilience and knowledge in moving African football forward in 29 years.” Onigbinde, called on the new CAF President, to avoid any form of witch-hunting, which is customary with African leadership, as he resumes office.
“Before the elections, he made some electioneering promises, his focus for now should be how to go about fulfilling those promises he made to all that voted him in, in the area of development.” For Amaju Pinnick, Onigbinde stated that, he should use his position to help Nigerian football develop in all areas and he should not only concentrate on competitions.
Nigerian football development has been very poor in the past years; it is time to give it a boost to the admiration of other African countries, which is what Pinnick should set out for.
