Spokeman of Nigerian Army, Brig-Gen. Sani Usman, has disclosed that an army officer and three other soldiers were killed, while pursuing fleeing Boko Haram insurgents that set ablaze military and police posts at Magumeri in Borno State on Wednesday.
Usman disclosed this yesterday in a statement issued in Maiduguri, the state capital. He said that the fallen heroes were killed, while chasing Boko Haram terrorists to five different villages in northern Borno.
The statement read in part: “The terrorists had earlier attempted to infiltrate Magumeri village but were repelled by a strong force from the Nigerian Army,” adding that the villagers could have connived with the terrorists to attack the military post at Magumeri.
According to him, after hot chasing and mop-up, the troops were able to neutralise an unconfirmed number of the terrorists and recovered a gun truck, two each of anti-aircraft guns, extra barrels and rocket propelled grenade bombs, 31 pieces of Nitrogen 57mm bombs, one roll of Nitrogen cable and a 60mm mortar bomb.
Other items recovered are arms and ammunition, which included an assorted general purpose machine gun and anti-aircraft ammunition and their links, three spare vehicle tyres with rims, one vulcanizing machine, one Qlink motorcycle, foodstuff and three Boko Haram terrorists’ camouflages.
