Sudents of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun state danced and jubilated on Monday, March 13 following the upgrading of the institution to a university.
The state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, signed the bill upgrading the polytechnic to the Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology in law after it was passed by the House of Assembly.
Premium Times reports that Amosun gave assent to the bill at the state’s executive council meeting where he also signed into law the re-establishment of Ogun state Polytechnic in Ipokia area of the state.According to him, the institutions will be multi-campus just as he said his government would engage think-tanks and academics to provide the necessary technical guide for the successful take-off of the institutions.He also expressed optimism that the institutions would compete favourably with their contemporaries in other areas.
The governor reportedly commended the state House of Assembly for the timely passage of the bill. He also assured that the necessary documents had been prepared and sent to the appropriate quarters.
Speaker Suraj Adekunbi told journalists that the House accelerated the passage of the bill because of the prospect and opportunities the institutions have for the state and the education sector.He said the institutions would also provide employment opportunities for people and improve access to tertiary education in the country.
